Bogota one of world’s 25 cheapest cities

Bogota is one of the 25 cheapest cities in the world for visitors or
temporary residents, according to a global survey on the Cost of Living in 2009.

Among 143 cities analyzed, Colombia’s capital comes in at 120, with first place being the most expensive city and 143 the cheapest metropolis.

To classify the costs of living in each city, Mercer, a U.S. consulting firm, took into account the prices of 200 goods and services including meals, transportation, accommodation, clothing, housing costs, services, the strength of the local currency and inflation in general.

In Latin America, Caracas, Venezuela, is the most expensive city and Monterrey, Mexico, the cheapest.

Tokyo has the world’s highest cost of living and Johannesburg the lowest the survey found.

Bogota was recently named Latin America’s least desirable city to live in – but at least it’s cheap!
