A Bogota judge on Thursday charged five people who were arrested in the capital on the eve of President Santos’ inauguration in possession of almost 200 kilos of explosives.
The three men and two women are charged with “making, trafficking and carrying munitions whose use is exclusive to the armed forces.”
The accused were found in possession of ten packets of Indugel explosives, two rolls of slow-burning fuse, 43 detonators, and 194 kilos of anfo.
Anfo was the explosive used the car bomb attack in Bogota Thursday morning, close to the headquarters of national broadcaster Caracol Radio. According to the latest reports the attack, which was condemned by the United Nations, injured at least eighteen.
The group of five people had been released soon after their August 6 arrest due to “procedural errors,” according to Efe.
Agents from Colombia’s security and intelligence agency DAS rearrested the five people, on request of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The prosecutor general, who said that the five arrested deny they were in possession of the explosives, did not comment on whether the August 6 arrests were related to the Thursday attack.
