Bogota is in the middle of celebrating its 475th birthday in true Colombian style. The city’s Summer Festival will last until Sunday.
There has already been a plethora of exciting events, including all manner of sporting, musical and theatrical attractions, but with another five days to go there is still plenty of time to see and do lots of exciting activities.
The festival first took place in June 1997 as a festival designed to celebrate not only the founding of Colombia’s capital city but also sports and entertainment on a national level. As of 2002 the festival was considered “cultural” by the Council of Bogota and legally recognised by Congress.

Events include all manner of sporting, musical and theatrical sights throughout the festival’s nine days. There are multiple concerts, sporting competitions for all ages and abilities as well as a circus over the coming days.
Some of the highlights include the Air Festival (Saturday, 2-5pm), which will see hot air balloons take off above the city with raffles taking place to hand out tickets to lucky festival goers.
As well as this, the capital is hoping to break two Guiness world records in one day. On Wednesday, participants are invited to take part in either a record breaking yoga class or rumba session. The current record for the worlds largest yoga class is held by Gwalior in India (29,973 people for 18 minutes) and the rumba record is in the hands of Iztapalapa in Mexico (6,630 people).
