From July 10 to August 20 Bogota will host the second annual International Symphonic Festival.
The event will bring world-famous musicians to Colombia to offer master classes, talks and workshops.
Seven concerts will take place in the Colsubsidio theatre,from the likes of Michael Collins, one of the world’s best violinists who frequently plays with Philadelphia Symphony orchestra and Eugene Ugorski, who first came to attention playing for the San Diego Symphony orchestra aged 8.
By way of a grand finale, 130 musicians will gather at the theater for an enormous free concert on Sunday July 25
In celebration of Colombia’s bicentenary, the national orchestra plans to incorporate a variety of popular Colombian folk music called Carrangua. The “Carrangua Symphony” will be lead by Jorge Velosa and Los Carrangueros, pioneers and leading exponents of the genre.
The festival will also stage performances by the National Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra of Colombia.
