Bogota hosts international stars at Symphonic Festival

Bogota will host the fourth International Symphonic Festival from July 27 to August 10, featuring famous classical musicians from around the world.

Chinese violinist Ning Feng, Colombian soprano Juanita Lascarro and Ukrainian-American pianist Valentina Lisitsa will accompany the National Symphonic Orchestra on three concerts at the Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo Theater in Bogota.

The internationally-acclaimed Feng will hit the stage Friday for the festival’s first concert, dedicated to the works of Russian composers Pyotr IlyichTchaikovsky and Dmitri Shostakovich.

Lascarro, who studied at Germany’s Cologne Opera, returns to her native Bogota for a show interpreting German composer Johann Strauss on August 3.

An August 10 show will see Lisitsa, one of the most viewed pianists on YouTube, play works by composers Jean Sibelius, Anton Webern and Sergei Prokofiev.
