Colombia’s capital Bogota imposed a temporary ban on the carrying of weapons as part of a program to promote disarmament.
Until June 3, Bogotanos will not be allowed to carry any arms even if they have a permit for them.
The temporary masure is part of the ‘Amor por Bogota’ (Love for Bogota) campaign that seeks the disarmament of the capital’s inhabitants.
The campaign includes pedagogical activities on the street and in public buildings that aim to show the Bogotanos the impact the use of weapons has on society and to discourage carrying them.
Three minors were killed in Bogota the past twenty days by lost bullets. Authorities estimate that in Colombia some 4 million firearms are in circulation.
