Belgian to add even more allure to Medellin’s tango festival

The 2011 edition of Medellins International Tango Festival, held from June 24 until June 28, is receiving support from an unexpected angle; A Belgian tango fanatic is providing an alternative program to that of the municipality.

The tango festival is one of the city’s finest festivals with tango performances organized across the city and featuring acts from all over the continent. However, it has always been organized without much international attention.

Belgian tango dancer Anne Marie Van Broeck, a former resident of Colombia’s second largest city, hopes to change this and decided to add a number of activities to the festival and will launch a website dedicated to the culture of tango in the city where tango master Carlos Gardel died in 1935.

The website, tangomedellin.co, aims to provide ongoing information about tango activities in Medellin throughout the year, Van Broeck told Colombia Reports.

The Belgian contribution to the festival, together with the first World Tango Championship to be held in Medellin, increase expectations that this year’s festival will be the best so far.

Neither the municipality nor Van der Broeck have finalized their line-up of activities, but the websites of both are available and should soon show how and where to enjoy one of the world’s most virtuous music and dance styles in Medellin.
