BBC Travel’s ‘My City’ focuses on Bogota

British broadcaster BBC on Wednesday dedicated an episode of their online series “My City” to Colombia’s capital Bogota.

In the five-minute presentation, Bogota native and BBC Mundo director Hernando Alvarez shows the viewer the lesser-known gems of Colombia’s capital.

Alvarez explains the diversity of the Bogota residents, the city’s booming street art culture and music scene, and the wide variety of fruits available.

The biggest downside of Colombia’s capital is the traffic, according to the BBC reporter. “It makes you stressed. It makes me mad. They have been talking about building a subway from the 40s and they’re still talking about it!” Alvarez complained.

However, according to the “bogotano,” the people of his city have been through worse than traffic jams and maintain an optimistic point of view.

The My City series allows local BBC reporters to show the city they’re from to the broadcaster’s worldwide audience.
