Colombian airline Avianca has added a daily flight between Bogota and Popayan, the capital of the southwestern department of Cauca.
The addition, which took effect September 1, has increased the number of weekly seats between Bogota and Popayan by 58%, news station CM& reported.
The flight opens up 52 daily seats along the route, bringing the weekly total up to 364 seats.
The move is expected to boost tourism and business travel to Popayan, as Avianca can provide Popayan travelers a quick connection to other domestic and international destinations.
Popayan, nicknamed “the White City,” and nestled between two Colombian mountain ranges, is known for its colonial architecture. It was dubbed the first “city of gastronomy” by UNESCO for its great diversity of culinary offerings. Tourists also travel to Popayan to visit the annual Holy Week ceremonies and the nearby Purace National Natural Park.
