Authorities investigate 8 deaths in Nariño

Authorities recovered the bodies of eight people who died in a remote area of the southern department of Nariño. The Prosecutor General will investigate the cause of their deaths.

Previously believed to be the result of a family feud, investigators will now explore if the deaths were the result of a drug trafficking vendetta or a raid by an illegal armed group.

Xavier Hernandez, a peace advisor to the Nariño department, told Caracol Radio that he hoped the cause of the violent incident would be clarified soon.

The bodies, among them two minors, display evidence of impact from blunt objects, according to the Prosecutor General.

Authorities will focus the investigation on testimony from locals and surviving members of the family affected.
