Authorities recover stolen USB with victims of displacement

Colombian authorities recovered a usb-stick that was stolen from an NGO that helps victims of forced displacement to recover their lands. The memory stick contains the names of all victims registered with the NGO.

According to several Colombian media, the usb-stick was thrown at the porch of the director of the NGO in the town of San Jose de Apartado on Sunday.

The memory stick was stolen from the office of the Victims Association for the Restitution and Access to Land earlier that week.

Authorities expressed their concern about the theft as victims trying to claim the land stolen from them by illegal armed groups are often subject to threats and violence.

National Police director Oscar Naranjo had promised protection to the NGO and the victims to avoid aggression by “mafias who do not want to allow the restitution of lands.”
