Police captured Walter ‘Commander Romel’ Tapiero, FARC-ideologist and
expected replacement for guerrillas ‘César’ and Gafas, who were
arrested during the liberation of Ingrid Betancourt.
The guerrilla was arrested in the south east of Bogota where he allegedly was waiting orders from his superiors to become the third in rank for the FARC’s first front, mostly active in the south east of Colombia and responsible for the captivity of hostages.
Tapiero was reponsible for the supply of food and other goods for the camp where the hostages that were liberated in Operation Jaque were held.
