Authorities arrest right hand man of Vicente Castaño

Medellín police Thursday captured Rodrigo Zapata, alleged right hand man of paramilitary warlord Vicente Castaño.

‘El Negro’ Zapata is a former member of the AUC and demobilized together with the paramilitary Calima Bloc that was led by Ever ‘HH’ Veloza.

The paramilitary owns large palm farms in the Chocó department that were stolen by the AUC before their demobilization.

Zapata is believed to be or have been a man of confidence of Vicente Castaño, brother of former AUC supreme leader Carlos Castaño. Some former paramilitaries say Castaño is dead, but others claim he is now leader of the Águilas Negras, a paramilitary group that rose from the ashes of the AUC.
