Authorities arrest 46 alleged ‘Aguilas Negras’

Colombian authorities arrested 46 alleged members of paramilitary group ‘Aguilas Negras’ in the south of the country.

According to the police, the massive arrest is a significant blow for the paramilitaries and the result of months of investigation.

All suspects are suspected of drug trafficking, extortion and homicide.

According to Caracol Radio, a local politician and an official of Colombia’s federal intelligence agency DAS are among those arrested. Eight of the suspects are important ringleaders of the organization, police told newspaper El Espectador.

The Aguilas Negras are one of the most prominent paramilitary groups that emerged from the ashes of the demobilized AUC.
