13 guerrillas arrested in La Guajira

Thirteen alleged FARC and ELN guerrillas were arrested Sunday in a joint police and army operation in the north-east Colombian department of La Guajira, Radio Santa Fe reports.

The operation, code named “Operacion Relampago Azul” or “Operation Blue Lightening,” took place in the rural municipality of Dibulla.

Seven men and six women were arrested.

The authorities believe that the majority of those arrested belong to the FARC’s 59th Front, which operates in the Sierra Nevada foothills surrounding the Caribbean port of Santa Marta.
