The president of Colombia’s state-controlled energy company Ecopetrol announced Thursday that 109 attacks were carried out against the oil sector in 2012, preventing the production 9,559 barrels of crude.
Speaking at the General Ecopetrol Shareholders Assembly, Ecopetrol President Javier Gutierrez Pemberthy confirmed that Ecopetrol alone lost 6,000 barrels and announced that contingency plans are being reinforced.
The president also revealed that Ecopetrol will invest $359 million in 2013 to guarantee the integrity of the energy transport infrastructure.
In terms of production, Gutierrez stated the group expects to reach a daily target of 798,900 barrels, representing a 5.8% increase on last year’s production.
The group also plans to explore 33 new oil wells compared with 23 last year.
Ecopetrol is a state-run oil company that in 2003 started selling public shares. The state still owns some 80% of the entity.
