At least 10 homosexuals in Congress: Petro

Opposition Senator Gustavo Petro Wednesday said that there are at least
ten homosexuals in Colombian Congress, El Espectador reported.

Petro clashed during Wednesday’s debate on the reform with evangelical senators who oppose the part that guarantees the political access of gay and lesbian groups.

“There are at least ten homosexual congressman and nobody, not one citizen, not one political opponent no matter how profound the differences, should try to silence them for their sexual preference. Here in Colombia we have gays who make laws,” Petro stressed.

According to the Senator, Congress can not deny that a part of the Colombian people “has different sexual preferences than the supposed majority.” and that Congress should represent Colombian society as a whole, also the GLTB population.

Petro claims the article should not be withdrawn for “homophobic criteria,” because “this can not be defended by democrats, if they are conservatives, liberals, of the left or of the right.”
