As part of the International Art Festival of Bogota, artlovers of all kinds will welcome ArtBo 2009, a large-scale four-day event taking place next weekend.
From 22 – 26 October, ArtBo will unite 200 artists, curators and critics along with 46 galleries, 16 national and 30 international. On display will be paintings, installations, photographs, sculptures and videos in three different buildings: one called ‘Galleries’; the second ‘Young artists or Artecámara’ and the third building is that of the ‘Child’, in which the relationship between art and the city will be taught.
“It’s a challenge for artists and gallery owners, and an opportunity to move the works with a little creativity, searching for solutions,” reflects Chiara Banfi, a Sao Paulo artist from the Vermelho gallery.
“Artbo offers a view of what is happening in the artistic environment of the continent, and I hope to find interesting proposals from Colombian artists in this edition,” she told arts site Bogota Vive In of the event, which opens to the public next Thursday in Corferias, Bogota.
But more than mere references to economic troubles, visitors will be able to see plastic reflections from artists from diverse countries such as the U.S., Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Venezuela, Spain, Peru, Cuba, Costa Rica and Panama.
This year, the public will see thousand works of art in total, some highlights of which are Andy Warhol’s Myths Portfolio, with thirteen images of characters such as Superman, Dracula, Mickey Mouse and Mick Jagger; paintings of the Peruvian Fernando de Szyszlo; Venezuelan Carlos Cruz-Diez; Argentinean Julio Le Parc; and Colombians Ana Mercedes Hoyos, Miguel Angel Rojas, and Adriana Salazar.
“An event such as ArtBo is very interesting and unusual, both because it shows a number of works and languages, and around the people at the other extreme, [we see] what we live every day in any art gallery in the world,” said Banfi.

The Bogota International Art Fair will take place at Corferias from 22 to 26 October, at Carrera 37 No. 24-67. It is open to the public from 12 pm – 8 pm.
