Army major arrested for ‘false positives’

Colombian authorities arrested three members of the army, including a
major, for their alleged involvement in four ‘false postives’.

Major Mauricio Ordoñez Galindo, Captain Osward Javier Arias Martínez and Lieutenant Carlos Alberto Galeano were arrested for alleged involvement in extrajudicial killings of four civilians in January 2007 in Cali. The victims were reported as members of a criminal gang who died in fighting with the army.

In the investigation of a similar case that occurred in the western department of Choco, three soldiers were arrested Thursday. Their former commander had been captured Wednesday already.

In total, 426 members of Colombian security forces have been detained for their alleged involvement in ‘false positives’.
