The Colombian army said Saturday it has killed four members of guerrilla group FARC and arrested two others near the Panamanian border.
According to the authorities, the combat kills and arrests were the result of fighting in Carmen del Darien, a municipality bordering Panama in the northwest of the country.
One of the killed rebels is “Chacal,” allegedly the second in command of the “Wilson Cordoba” unit of the FARC’s 57th Front.
One of the arrested guerrillas was a 10-year old girl.
Authorities hold the 57th Front responsible for a number of economic shut-downs imposed by the FARC in Choco, Colombia’s most impoverished department.
Additionally, “the criminal activity of the 57th Front focuses on the trafficking of war material and the sale of coca paste, using the Panamanian border for the transnational trafficking,” the army said in a press release.
