Army kills 10 FARC members

Colombia’s armed forces have killed at least ten guerrillas from the FARC’s 30th Front in the western department of Choco, Caracol Radio reported Thursday.

The deaths came as a result of a two month tracking operation carried out in the pacific coast area that allowed the army to locate the base for the guerrillas who were accused of extorting money from local businesses.

Four other FARC members were detained as part of the operation that also saw the seizure of weapons and other items used by the front.

This operation by the army comes on the heels of Monday’s confirmation that FARC commander “Jeronimo Galeano” was killed in the department of Huila last weekend. Jeronimo had been the head of 16 security rings charged with protecting the FARC supreme leader, “Alfonso Cano.”
