Army captures notorious FARC kidnapper

The Colombian army killed ten FARC guerrillas and was able to capture
another eight in an operation in the Central Colombia Cundinamarca
department. Among the captured is one of the guerrillas’ most
notorious kidnappers.

Army commander General Oscar Enrique González Peña told journalists that the capture of Bernardo ‘El Negro Antonio’ Mosquera Machado is a serious blow to the FARC.

González said the FARC were unsuccessfully trying to approach Colombia’s capital Bogotá. “All citizens can be sure that the FARC’s attempts to reach the perimeter
of Bogota will be unsuccessful because the army taking all safety
measures.”

The guerrilla kidnapper has been on the army’s most wanted guerrillas list for more than ten years and is suspected of having carried out several dozen kidnappings.

The confrontations between army forces and guerrillas were still going on Saturday morning. One soldier was killed during the fighting.
