Approval rating Uribe down to 66%

The approval rating of Colombian president Álvaro Uribe dropped significantly after the collapse of pyramid scheme DRFE and the shut down of suspected money launderer DMG led to a social and economic crisis in many parts of Colombia. According to a poll by CM& the President’s policy can count on the approval of 66 percent of the population.

Uribe can still count on the approval of a vast majority of the Colombians when it comes to his fight against the FARC. 78 percent of the inquired agrees with his policies related to the peace process.

The President’s economic policy has lost much of the approval of the Colombians. His general policy is approved by 55 percent, but 51 percent of the Colombians disapproves of how Uribe handled the pyramid crisis and 63 percent is unhappy about how Uribe deals with Colombia’s growing unemployment.

The President enjoyed an incredible popularity after the death of FARC commander Raúl Reyes and the rescue of hostage Ingrid Betancourt. A poll conducted for newspaper El Espectador, just days after Operation Jaque showed an 87 percent approval rating. A poll conducted by Gallup less than a month ago showed his policy had the approval of 75 percent of the Colombians.
