Finnish ‘cello rock’ band Apocalyptica comes to Bogota

Finnish hard rock band Apocalypta come to Colombia to perform a single live show in Bogota’s Metropol theatre.

The band, formed in Helsinki in the mid 90s by graduates from Finland’s Sibelius Academy of Classical Music, are known for their unique fusion of classical music with hard rock, resulting in what has been termed “cello rock”. Replacing guitar riffs with violins and cellos, the band has carved out a niche sound, achieving commerical success early on with worldwide album sales topping one million for their 1997 debut album, “Plays Metallica by Cello Forum.”

The Bogota concert will showcase music from their 7th studio album, titled “7th Symphony,” which features artists including Dave Lombardo of Slayer, and Gavin Rossdale of Bush. The show will also include unique covers of classic songs from legendary rock bands including Metallica, Guns’n’Roses and Faith no More.

The band’s official website for the show lists further details and ticket sales locations in Bogota.

Teatro Metropol, calle 24 no. 6-31. Tickets are between COP120,000 and COP150,000 ($62-$77). Doors open at 8:30PM.
