Andy Warhol exhibition opens in Bogota

The Art Museum of the Republic Bank in Bogota opened this Wednesday an
exhibition of Andy Warhol called ‘Mr. America’. The work of the U.S.
artist will be exposed until 21 September.

“Andy Warhol achieved in many ways the American way of life, the American Dream with all its tensions and contradictions,” Philip Larrath-Smith, curator of the exhibition, told vive.in.

This is also the concept of the exhibition about Andy Warhol. He is considered to be the one of the most important and influential artist in the visual art movement known as pop art.

The museum will show Warhol’s art on two floors, including a work on James Dean and a series of Marilyn Monroe.

“Warhol was a voyeur, not only in the sexual definition of the word,” Larrath-Smith said. “He wanted to see what people were doing, what they were talking about and he sought the company of crazy and wild exhibitionist. He was a bit bored and those people entertained him.”

The Art Museum of the Republic Bank is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. as well as Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
