Weapons factory dismantled near Bogota

A clandestine weapons factory in the municipality of Soacha, 10 miles west of the capital Bogota was raided and dismantled by the Colombian military, according to a military communique published Saturday.

Weapons of different calibres and parts for their manufacture were seized during the raid carried out by the Colombian military with the support of the Technical Investigation Team of the Cundinamarca department.

Among the items seized were three pistols, five revolvers, a shotgun, nine wooden handles, a 38 calibre smith and wesson barrel and a silencer. The owners of the residential property in which the factory was located, a man and a woman both aged over 50, were arrested.

“We are trying to neutralize the trafficking of arms in this sector,” said Military Police Commander Colonel Jorge Herrera Diaz.
