The United States is seeking the extradition of at least seven alleged members of a Bogota gang suspected of killing a DEA agent in an apparent botched robbery in Colombia’s capital last month.

According to Colombian media, authorities have arrested seven men, all suspected of being part of a ring of taxi drivers specialized in robbing their clients and all wanted by US justice to respond to charges of homicide.

Weekly Semana reported that authorities expect to make another three arrests.

All detainees are suspected of being part of a criminal gang dedicated to taking victims on a “millionaire’s ride” during which victims are drugged or threatened and taken to ATMs and sometimes their homes to rob them of their money and belongings.

A number of arrests have been challenged by the defendants and their families.

According to surveillance cameras, DEA agent James “Terry” Watson was the victim of what seemed to be a botched attempt to take the American on the millionaire’s ride.

The US official died on June 21 after he was stabbed by attackers who attempted to rob the American after watching basketball with friends and colleagues in a bar in the north of Bogota.
