Uribe’s lawyer: Testimony proves ex-president innocent

Former President Alvaro Uribe’s lawyer said Wednesday that the testimony of former DAS deputy director Martha Leal before the Congress Accusations Committee proves Uribe was not involved in illegal wiretapping, reports El Espectador.

Uribe’s lawyer, Jaime Lombana, did not give any specifics about Leal’s testimony, but said that the former president’s “transparency remained clear” as well as his “adherence to the law and constitution.”

Leal, who negotiated a plea bargain for her own involvement in the scandal, was called to provide any details she has about Uribe’s potential involvement in the illegal wiretapping of activists, journalists and his political opposition. The investigation by the committee into Uribe’s potential involvement in the scandal began on October 21.
