University student murdered in Cordoba department

A university law student was murdered Thursday in the municipality of Montelibano, Cordoba department, while on break from school.

The student, Juan Carlos Ramirez, who attended the Universidad del Sinu, was vacationing on his family’s property when the event took place, according to authorities.

Authorities are investigating whether criminal bands present in the region are responsible for the crime, Caracol Radio reported.

Ramirez is the fifth university student murdered in the department thus far this year.

In January, two Bogota students were murdered by suspected members of drug trafficking groups in Cordoba. Less than a month later, two more students were killed in the rural area Cerete while on their way home from an internet cafe.
