Two lawmakers arrested for alleged paramilitary ties

Colombian authorities Monday arrested two Congressmen who are alleged to have enjoyed ties to paramilitary warlords.

Representative Edgar Ulises Torres (Cambio Radical) is suspected of having had relations with Freddy ‘El Aleman’ Rendon Herrera and his colleague Juan Pablo Sanchez (Liberal Party) of ties to Ernesto Baez. Both paramilitary leaders are currently held in Colombian jails.

Over seventy lawmakers have been implicated in the so-called ‘parapolitics’ scandal that revealed ties between paramilitary death squads and prominent Colombian political and economic personalities.
