Traffic accident kills 12 in Cesar department

Twelve people were killed and 24 injured in a traffic accident in the northern Colombian department of Cesar on Sunday morning, reported Colombian media.

The accident occurred at 6.30AM Sunday morning, when a public bus collided with a truck on the road between the towns of Curumani and Pailitas.

The bus was traveling between Bogota and Maicao in the northern La Guajira department.

According to preliminary investigations, the truck had been driving in the wrong lane when it collided with the bus. There were heavy rains in the area at the time.

Of the twelve people killed in the accident, nine were passengers on the bus and three were in the truck.

The 24 people who were injured in the collision have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
