Executed FARC hostages honored in state funeral

The four FARC hostages murdered on Saturday were honored at a funeral Tuesday attended by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

Colombia’s Minister of Defense Juan Carlos Pinzon and senior military and police also joined the family, friends and colleagues paying their respects at Bogota’s Primada Cathedral.

The coffins of the men, who had spent between 11 and 14 years in captivity before being killed, were carried through the streets to the cathedral by fellow military officers.

Security force members Libio Jose Martinez, Alvaro Moreno, Edgar Yesid Duarte and Elkin Hernandez Rivas were shot at close range by guerrillas as the Colombian Army approached their camp on Saturday.

Their bodies will be transferred to their hometowns for burial later this week.
