Soldier killed by colleague over lunch

A Colombian soldier has been shot and killed by a colleague in an act of intolerance, the army reported on Wednesday.

Soldier Santiago Montero, 22, was apparently shot by fellow solider Luis Miguel Beltran because he angrily served him a small portion of food, saying that was all he deserved. It sparked a heated debate that ended in Beltran firing his weapon and fatally wounding Montero, said the commander of the army’s 9th brigade.

The incident occurred at a military base in the Huila department, central Colombia at 1:15PM on Sunday.

Both soldiers were working on constructing a new road in the north of Huila at the time.

The body of the solider was transported to his native home in Bogota on Tuesday.

Beltran has been handed over to authorities, however it is not yet known whether he will tried by a public or military court.
