Colombia’s president Juan Manuel Santos reiterated his determination to find a peaceful solution with FARC Monday in the wake of a spate of guerrilla attacks in the south of the country.
As talks between the government and the country’s largest rebel group continue so does the violence in many areas of the country. The departments of Cauca, Choco and Caqueta in particular have been targeted.
The latest of these incidents came on Monday when a bomb exploded near a police station in Cauca injuring 26 people.
Although no official blame was attached to FARC, several news agencies and the mayor Ruben Dario Devia claimed the rebel group were responsible.
Nevertheless Santos remains steadfast in his commitment to the talks, which aim to bring an end to the longest running armed conflict in the country’s history, but realizes the importance of goodwill between the two parties.
“On the issue of peace we continue with our normal schedule and we hope that in the negotiating table we display goodwill, because if there’s goodwill there are agreements but if there is no goodwill there are no agreements,” he said.
