President Juan Manuel Santos has approved the extradition of drug kingpin Daniel “El Loco” Barrera to the United States.
The Supreme Court had already signed off on the extradition and Barrera will be transferred to the U.S in the coming days to a New York Court, where he will answer to charges of drug trafficking.
The news comes just days after authorities seized the assets under the name of the former drug kingpin.

‘El Loco’, one of Colombia’s most notorious and most influential drug lords, was captured last year in Venezuela and is currently being held in the Picaleña prison in Ibague, Tolima.

The process to extradite Barrera, who had been involved in the drug trafficking game since the 1980s, was begun almost immediately after his capture, and the man described as “the last of the great ‘capos'” by President Santos’ will be extradited to the U.S. in the next few days.
