Bogota Reggae pioneer hacked to death in southern Colombia

A Colombian reggae pioneer was murdered with a machete during a robbery attempt in southern Colombia, local media reported on Wednesday.

Daladier Arismendi, 39, was housekeeping for an Italian friend in a Colombia’s southern city of San Agustin, when the robbery took place on Sunday, according to Colombia’s La Nacion newspaper.

The robbers stole the renowned musician’s motorbike and computer and attacked him with a machete. He was killed instantly by a blow to the back of the head.

Arismendi left behind a German wife and daughter. Both the child and mother were vacationing in Germany when the attack took place.

The reggae pioneer was the founder of Alerta Kamarada, which is considered one of the most recognized reggae bands in Colombia. He left the group in 2006 to pursue other dreams such as painting and ceramics.

Daladier Arismendi was buried Wednesday in Bogota.
