Botero’s cat loses whisker within week

‘The Cat,’ a sculpture given to the city of Medellin by Colombian artist Fernando Bernando Botero, has lost a whisker within a week of installation.

According to daily El Tiempo, the whisker was stolen, but Colombia’s Radio Caracol cast doubt over this theory, blaming the installation process and recent heavy rains.

The radio station reported the bronze whisker most likely came off during placement, was provisionally put back on before being inaugurated, and consequentially fell off during adverse weather.

According to Caracol, the community of San Cristobal hopes to collect the money to repair the statue, despite being one of the poorest neighbourhoods of Medellin.
