One person dead after downtown Medellin explosion

A homeless man was killed after a small explosive went off that he was allegedly trying to plant by a police station in Medellin on Sunday, according to local media.

The explosion occurred late Sunday night near Medellin’s Bolivar Park located in the downtown area known as “El Centro.”

The man, who was described as homeless by local authorities, was allegedly trying to place the small bomb at a police station located on the edge of the park, when the device detonated.

Police officers from the area took the injured man to the local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Minutes later, two other explosions were reported heard by local media to the east of Bolivar Park in the areas of Villa Hermosa y Villatina.

The Villa Hermosa police station could not confirm any details about any additional explosions to Colombia Reports.
