Blast in northern Colombia leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

An explosion in Colombia’s northern Norte De Santander department killed one man and injured two others, including a young girl, early Thursday.

According to the local police commander, Col. Eliecer Camacho, the explosion in the small town of El Tarra occurred when a man accidentally detonated a bomb, ending his own life. Officials allege that the perpetrator most likely belonged to one of the leftist guerrilla groups that operate in the area, the FARC or ELN.

Police reported that it was likely that the bomb was meant to be installed in a nearby road, where security forces often pass. There have been 14 acts of violence attributed to guerrilla groups in the area so far this year.
