Navy detains ship carrying over 100kg of cocaine

A Colombian navy patrol has detained three people aboard a ship on the Amazon River carrying over 100 kgs of cocaine and 500 cartridges of ammunition, El Espectador reported Thursday.

The ship was intercepted in an area known as “La Union” in the municipality of Leticia, Amazonas department, in the southeast corner of Colombia.

Authorities believe that the materials were going to be transported to”La Pedrera” township, also in the Amazonas department.

The Navy reported that there were approximately 56 kgs of freebase cocaine and 50 kgs of cocaine powder on board, as well as 20 boxes containing 500 cartridges for a 16mm shotgun.

According to authorities, the cocaine had an international black market value of over $1.3 million.

The three detained, from Colombia, Peru, and Brazil, have been put in the hands of competent authorities, along with the cocaine and the ammunition.
