Minister arranges privileges for jailed brother: prosecution

Colombia’s Interior and Justice Minister, Fabio Valencia, arranged
special treatments and privileges for his brother Guillermo Valencia
who is currently in jail awaiting trial, a prosecutor claimed Monday.

Prosecutor Angela Maria Buitrago requested an investigation of Minister Valencia “because we can prove privileges” granted to his brother Guillermo Valencia.

According to newspaper El Espectador, the former District Attorney of Medellin received mobile phones, masseurs and visits of officials of the Interior ministry in jail. Newspaper El Tiempo reported Guillermo Valencia even moved freely through Medellin without being guarded by Colombia’s prison authority INPEC.

Guillermo Valencia is awaiting his trial for alleged ties to the mafia. He is accused of having done favors for jailed capo ‘Don Mario’.
