Mine explosion traps 100 workers

Emergency services are working to free around 100 workers trapped following an explosion in a tunnel in the San Fernando mine located in Amaga, in the central Colombian department of Antioquia around midnight Wednesday.

Initial reports suggest that 30 people may have died during the explosion. This figure is yet to be confirmed by authorities.

Colombia’s Institute of Geology and Mining (Ingeominas) is working with emergency services to rescue the trapped miners.

A similar event occurred in the same mine year and a half ago, resulting in the death of one worker.
