Medellin turns on Christmas lights

Medellin turned on its Christmas lights on Saturday, marking the beginning of more than a month of holiday festivities.

Like in previous years, the exuberant Christmas lights are exposed along the Medellin river, La Playa in the center of the city, and in dozens of parks across the city.

According to the city government, the 40,000 decorations are made up of some 900 kilometers of illuminated strings, 31 million LED lights.

The decorations and the activities organized around Christmas make December one of the most important cultural events of the year.
