Medellin hearse will take Hugo Chavez to final resting place

Venezuela contracted a funeral home from Medellin, Colombia to provide the hearse that will take the remains of President Hugo Chavez to their final resting place.

The 1999 Lincoln hearse owned by San Vicente funeral home in the town of Rio Negro just outside Colombia’s second city Medellin, was flown to Caracas Thursday by the Venezuelan Air Force. The hearse will reportedly be used Friday to transfer the remains of Hugo Chavez, which have been lain in state at the military academy for over one week, to the final resting place of the controversial leader, a military museum on a hill next to the presidential palace.

According to newspaper El Colombiano, the hearse is the only one in Latin America which fit the specifications of the Venezuelan government. They reportedly requested a hearse that has windows large enough to display the coffin.

Due to time constraints, the hearse was flown to neighboring Venezuela. The general manager at the funeral home in Rio Negro, Fernando Arango, is a bit worried about what state the car will be in when it is returned. According to El Colombiano, the businessman said that he had his doubts about the return of the automobile, because in an event this massive, no one knows in what shape the vehicle will return.
