Colombian BMX rider Mariana Pajon won the Colombian Sportswoman of the Year award for her second consecutive year, Colombian media reported.
With 14 world championships under her belt, Pajon beat volleyball star Madeleine Montaño and cyclist Jessica Legarda for the honor of best female sportsperson.
Pajon, known as the “Queen of BMX,” announced via Twitter that she is “very happy and proud to be the sportswoman of 2011 again.”
The 19-year-old Colombian rider has been recovering from injuries sustained in a crash more than three weeks ago at the BMX Supercross World Championships in London.
Medellin-born Pajon currently ranks as the number one female BMX rider in the world. She has plans to compete in the 2012 London Olympics and bring home the gold for Colombia.
