‘Urabeños’ leader arrested in north Colombia

A local leader of neo-paramilitary criminal organization “Los Urabeños” is detained in the Sucre department, north Colombia, W Radio reports.

The man, alias “Santiago,” was arrested by Colombian National Police after a warrant was issued by a municipal court in the neighbouring department of Cordoba.

Investigations confirmed Santiago to be the head of a local faction of Los Urabeños focused on the extortion of farmers and traders. He is also believed to be implicated in the displacement of residents of the San Jorge region in Sucre.

Santiago has been handed over to the Cordoba authorities.
