Colombian singer Juanes on Wednesday joined the controversy around the California’s referendum on legalizing marijuana, saying that legalization would be a step towards peace.
Juanes, originally from Medellin and now a Miami resident, wrote on his Twitter account “if I could vote in California, this coming November 2, I would vote for the decriminalization of marijuana. A step towards peace.”
Juanes’ position opposes that of his President Juan Manuel Santos, who on several occasions has said that legalization in California would cause incoherence in the international war on drugs. Following the discussion in Colombia on the California poll, the country’s Congress president said he supports legalization.
