Government promises radical poverty reduction

The Colombian government promised to radically reduce poverty in the
last two years of the current administration of President Álvaro Uribe.

According to the National Planning Department, the government will
attempt to reduce the amount of Colombians living below the poverty
line from 45 to 35 percent, a total of 5 million people, Caracol Radio reported Thursday.

The government wants to reduce unemployment from 12 to 8,8 percent.
To make that possible, the government must create 600,000 jobs per year.
