Global March for Peace to arrive in Colombia

With the arrival of the first Global March for Peace, Colombia will join the clamour for a world free from war, while on Tuesday 40 different speakers will offer messages of hope to Colombians.

The Global March will arrive in Bogota on Tuesday where it will be met by Mayor Samuel Moreno. The messages will be broadcast from 1.30PM while the director of the mobilization in Colombia, David Nassar, commented that the conflict that continues in the country gives particular significance to the arrival of the march.

“Certainly for us it has a special meaning … we must all unite against violent demonstrations,” said Nassar in a report ny newspaper El Pais Monday.

The march will be supported by various social organizations which protest against kidnapping, torture and forced disappearance.

The group of pacifists will arrive in Bogota on Tuesday and various cultural events have been scheduled, including a free concert featuring performers such as Aterciopelados.

The march will then continue its journey on Thursday to the Rumichaca bridge on the border between Colombia and Ecuador, where a concert by musicians Juanes and Juan Fernando Velasco will herald the subsequent tour of Ecuador and the rest of Latin America.
