Garzon denies heart problems

Colombia’s Vice President Angelino Garzon is in good health, his department announced, after Bogota authorities said the VP had been rushed to hospital with chest pain.

The vice presidency’s statement conflicts with that of Bogota Health Secretary Hector Zambrano, who told media that Garzon had suffered severe chest pain and was rushed to hospital amid fears of a heart attack.

“Vice President Garzon wishes to inform the public that his state of health has not been affected as some persons have made known in the past minutes,” a press release on the website of the vice presidency said.

The official had only recently gone back to work after undergoing open heart surgery days after his inauguration on August 7.

In Zambrano’s opinion, the VP did not take enough time to recover from his operation.

“This pain is evidence that there are some signs of fatigue. The important thing is that he looks after himself. We all care about Vice President Garzon. We understand his desire to work, but that activity may create more problems,” Zambrano said.
